Martyrs Day – Honouring the Fallen

Public events, UAE

Martyrs’ Day also known as Commemoration Day was decreed by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates to be marked annually on the 30th November.

A sad yet defiant day for the UAE community, the day recognises the men and women who made the greatest sacrifice for their nation, their lives, in order to protect their country and their people. For the team at Delta Sound Dubai, this project is a personal one; it was a privilege to work alongside the team at Evolution Events to deliver a quietly confident moment in time where we respectfully celebrate the fallen.

“It is a very important day for the Emirati community, explained Delta Sound Dubai general manager, Andy Jackson.  “The event is extremely subtle but needs to run flawlessly and the saying ‘heard but not seen’ was never truer than on this occasion,” continued Andy.

Held at the newly opened Memorial Park, against the impressive backdrop of the Abu Dhabi Grand Mosque, Delta Sound Dubai had to design a sound system which seamlessly blended into its awe-inspiring surroundings. Given it being an outdoor space, blending in sounds systems requires a great deal of planning and strategy. Not only do you need to consider the infrastructure but also the sound acoustics of an open space. What works for sound in an outdoor space, isn’t always the most inconspicuous of kit!
“Managed by senior engineer, Mehdi Khelil, and after careful consideration and testing leading up to the event, we decided the best solution was to engage a distributed system using L’Acoustic 5XT to cover the 2000 grandstand seating which comprised of VVIP’s and officials. In addition, we placed two smaller Kudo stacks near the screens for content reinforcement which were also used for the military bands. The result was a very intimate and immersive feeling to the sound, which was music to our client’s ears, as it perfectly complemented the event creative,” explained Andy Jackson.

It’s not always about how loud and crisp our sound systems are, sometimes it’s about how intimate and close it feels to the audience.
