As World Cup fever takes over the globe, Doha too has been reveling in the excitement of the competition.  Delta Sound were recently appointed to deliver live audio for a collection of Fan Zones offering an ideal space for football fans  to enjoy the matches in a purpose-built open air venue within the Katara Cultural Village in Doha, Qatar.

The venue was equipped with a 10m panoramic screen and additional side screens, and offered up to 1,500 seats with bleachers, couches and giant pillows.  Qatar’s Supreme Committee of Delivery & Legacy (SCDL) hosts the project for the full length of the Cup (28th June – 13th July 2014). Alongside each and every match, visitors can compete in various games and enjoy the fun with supporting cultural activities.

Delta Sound Qatar was called by Wasserman Media Group to supply and look after the audio system, including operating the system for the opening night and regular match screenings.  With crew support from Delta Dubai, the team, under the supervision of Project Manager and Sound Designer; Paul Tonkin, included Qatar`s Trini Gois, Dubai`s Mahesh Ramdin and Lewis Underwood who are operating the evening shows.

The Fan Zone opening ceremony  – also the spectacular venue launch, saw live performances from local band; the Kamal Musallam Band alongside impressive Brazilian Drummers, Brazil Fusion Capoeira performers, Qatari Drummers and Football Freestylers.

The main system supplied by Delta comprised from HK Audio Cadis line array with HK Audio CT115 Speakers that were used as delays and monitors for the main artist. The VIP room was powered with HK Audio CT108 Speakers.  Control station used Avid Profile which also accommodates FOH & Monitors.

“Although an open-air venue was chosen for this project, the cooling system did an excellent job, it was bloody freezing there.” Laughs Paul Tonkin.
