The year wouldn’t be complete without Delta Sound Dubai delivering one more concert at what we fondly refer to as our ‘second home’, du Arena on Yas Island. Albeit a NYE gig, we were delighted to provide audio comms solutions for the team at Flash Entertainment, ensuring the success of the biggest night of the year!

“We supplied the main PA system, Delay System and two of the four Delay Towers for the concert set up. We also supplied show Motorolas for local production, as well as liaise between touring production for RF licensing with Flash entertainment and the TRA. We also supplied the audio for the Plasa stage where local acts warmed up the crowd for Coldplay,” explained project lead, Robert Eatock.

Coldplay’s ‘Head Full of Dreams’ tour played to a sellout crowd of 25,000 in the arena. All the drama and ‘don’t you dare’ moments of 2016 melted away into oblivion as the crowds belted out lyrics at the top of their lungs, waved their colour-changing Xylobands in the air, were showered in rainbow coloured confetti and large balloons, whilst being mesmerized by the firework, light and pyro show!

Delta Sound Dubai worked tirelessly with Coldplay’s lead engineer Tony Smith to ensure that the sellout crowd had the best concert audio by ensuring the right positions for the delay towers, not to mention finding solutions to work around the foggy conditions of the last day of 2016. With a little bit of creative thinking we were able to tackle the heavy condensation by leaving the system elements covered and powered over night, generating the heat and internal airflow needed.

The night was just magic. The arena was filled with such a vibrant and uplifting vibe and the emotions poured out as Coldplay paid tribute to George Michael, as they did a cover of his 1987 hit Faith. We were delighted that our flagship DiGiCo consoles were used for the stage and FOH support acts, as well as our very own customised system design comprising of I-acoustics K1, K2, and V-dosc; the result was seamless.

It’s safe to say that the 25,000 strong crowd, including our own onsite team of Robert Eatock, Ethan Curry, Rayno Spies, Nadim Ali, Kashif Majeed and Haroon Sajjad rocked on into the New Year!
