Why good CCTV matters, discover DeltaLive’s CCTV capabilities

Why do you need CCTV? What makes it good? “Crowds are agile and mobile with constant access to information, so event organisers need to be one step ahead. CCTV enables that ability, to monitor and implement crowd control. It also gives the emergency services access to information, allowing them to act where necessary. Overall it provides an elevated level of security.” We chat to our in-house, DeltaLive communications guru, Phil Kidd, to find out the what and why of CCTV.

Why should event organisers use good quality, adaptable CCTV?
“We recommend CCTV for any project or event that requires real-time situation awareness. Along with recordings of circumstances for investigation, and event issue learning. For example, at the London New Year’s Eve Fireworks celebrations, CCTV is used for crowd management, the emergency services and also to learn how to better manage and run the event the following year. At some large public events a system may not be used for the obvious security monitoring. But instead to monitor the crowd movement and density in any particular area.

When assessing the CCTV requirements for a client, what factors do you consider?
“Obviously each event is different. A big consideration are the mounting locations. These can vary immensely from being placed on a piece of street furniture (with the relevant permissions). To roof top positions or very temporary locations such as a tower light.”

What specialty skills are needed to operate CCTV?
“To operate CCTV systems in the private security world, operatives need to have undertaken an SIA (Security Industry Authority) CCTV course in open space surveillance. This involves a practical and written examination as well as a criminal record check. It’s really important because we’re capturing data and are dealing with people’s privacy.”

What CCTV Capabilities does DeltaLive have?
“We stock Axis and Hikovision cameras, both fixed and PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom). Along with various different cameras for low light levels and zoom capabilities. Having a wide-ranging stock means that we have a solution for every situation. Our stock also includes view stations and server setups for recording. All of our outdoor cameras are IP rated – Index of Protection rating – so they will continue to work in all weather. We also have rapid deployment hubs and battery solutions, as well as microwave links to support signal transport.”

Why use DeltaLive to supply your CCTV?
“DeltaLive’s CCTV systems, in particular, are built and designed for rapid deployment. We adapt the cameras in-house with fast-fit connectors and brackets, as well as a selection of rapid deployment hub units. This ultimately means that we are able to spend less time onsite before and after event, rigging and de-rigging. It also means that we’re able to remote monitor the cameras from a variety of locations, depending on the requirement.

The technology that we deploy is adaptable. We visit the site before an event and ensure that we fully understand the requirements and needs. We are immensely flexible. Together with our cutting-edge and diverse range of equipment and communications technology, and let’s not forget our years of experience, DeltaLive is ideally placed to provide your next CCTV requirements.”
