DeltaLive Sustainable Garden

Introducing our DeltaLive sustainable garden! We’ve repurposed old flight cases and are proudly nurturing a selection of plants. These currently include: tomatoes, cucumbers, watermelon, mint, lavender and gazanias.

Butterfly enjoying the sustainable garden

The long-term plan for our sustainable garden is for it to be able to provide a lunch for us. But we also want it to be a space that is calm and peaceful. Somewhere to take a break, have a cup of (mint) tea and recharge!

The short-term, day-to-day plan for the garden is to enjoy it. To revel in the delights of each of the plants developing and growing.

Mental health awareness is really important, and gardening is a well-respected method for encouraging positive mental health as well as for relieving stress.

We plan to plant one of the flight cases with British wildflowers in September, which will attract bees and help the pollinators. In turn that will help our plants to be pollinated!

Our easily accessible, sustainable DeltaLive garden offers a little reprieve during a busy day. It was also a very fortuitous way of upcycling old flight cases that would otherwise have been thrown away! To top it off, some of the flight cases are from the 1980’s, which adds a delightful vintage touch to the garden.

“Taking my coffee outside to inspect the plants in the morning is just a really great way to start the day. While checking on the tomato plants and pinching out the side shoots the most amazing scent of fresh tomato plant envelopes the space. One of the first things I do on a Monday morning is come and check on the garden. Has it survived the weekend? How is everything doing? Pottering about behind the warehouse has never been so delightful!” Lucinda Bailey-Coe, self-appointed gardener.

“As the project has evolved, we’ve seen more and more of the team get excited and enthusiastic, especially when something new grows, like our first watermelon fruit. After all, this is our sustainable garden, a team effort to make our workspace better for the environment.”
