Meet Alison Company Manager DeltaLive

Meet Alison, DeltaLive Company Manager

Meet Alison, whose role at DeltaLive is varied and diverse. As Company Manager it includes the HR, business change and she tends to do everything else that nobody else does. “One day I may mop the floor, the next run the board meeting.”

Alison is experienced and knowledgeable, always a good sounding board and someone who sums up a situation well. She began her career as a Shepherdess, moved into retail, building up experience to becoming a Buying and Merchandising Director. Then became an overall Commercial Director, responsible for buying, merchandising, operations and IT for a well-known retail company. However, for the last 4 years Alison has been at DeltaLive bringing with her all that experience albeit from a very different industries.

Driven by integrity, courage and compassion and the desire above all to make a difference. “The elements I enjoy most in my job are the diversity and driving and achieving business change. I find it incredibly rewarding seeing an improvement at any level from the changes put in place. This is the only way that any type of change is sustainable.”

Here are a few facts about Alison:

What nickname do you prefer? “Al – I hate being called Ali – I am just not an Ali.”
Can you play any instruments?
“Sadly no.”
If you were to create a slogan for your life, what would it be? “Always do what you said you would.”
What is the best advice you’ve ever been given? “If you think it’s right, just do it – ask for forgiveness afterwards.”
If you could learn to do anything, what would it be? “So many things – learn to play a musical instrument, learn to sing well, actually be a good cyclist, learn to speak a foreign language…”

When Alison isn’t at DeltaLive, she can most often be found enjoying sport. “Personally, I cycle – quite a lot to be honest. Both of our kids play in sports, rugby and netball.  I go with my husband to watch as often as we are able.”

“We are also very social with a wide circle of friends and I have just started going back to hosting dinner parties, which we really got out of the habit of doing. I love cooking, so it’s no big deal – it just means I may not have time to cycle that day.”

“I have always worked full time but have also always volunteered in one capacity or another. Be it running the school parents committee or as a first aider to the rugby team. My sons’ team now, being adult, have professionals and qualified physios on the pitch sides at all times. So, my amateur services are no longer required. These days I volunteer as a trustee for our local Citizens Advice in the Mole Valley. Here we are faced with several very varied challenges. We work very hard to keep the services available for all individuals in need. And remain a charity who needs to raise money to keep operating.”

Finally,

When asked where she would most like to max-out a credit card, Alison’s answer was very candid. “To be honest, there are too many [shops] to count. Having worked in fashion for most of my life I admire and spend money in many different places, depending upon what I am looking for, or what I am feeling, or just a want – there really is no such thing as need in my life. I find my tastes are changing as I get older, as is the requirement. I used to go to work in a smart dress or suit with very high heels and (sometimes) make up. Now if I was to turn up like that, work colleagues would think that HR was ‘on something’ or having a funny turn!”
