Major League Baseball

The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox made history when they played in the London Major League Baseball Series. This was the very first time that two regular season Major League Baseball (MLB) games were hosted in Europe. To facilitate this, the London Stadium was given a radical make-over, transforming it into a 60 000-seater ballpark.

DeltaLive was tasked to install a multi-site trunk radio system, designed to enhance coverage and, all importantly, resilience. This system was used by the event management for the MLB games at this former Olympic stadium, which hosted the 2012 London Olympic Games, that DeltaLive was also involved with, supplying communications across 38 venues.

Attended by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in support of the Invictus Games Foundation, along with a packed stadium, both MLB games were an overwhelming success. The New York Yankees were the winners on both days.

Within the stadium there were two main communications sites. These two sites were connected together and to DeltaLive HQ for monitoring purposes. This was done via our Cisco Mesh system DSM with secure VPN. It also allowed for monitoring of all equipment alarms and UPS status.

Over 250 hand-portable radios were deployed to organisers and stewards to facilitate the event. Additionally, the teams required their own secure comms, so each team had their own digital repeater and handsets that were encrypted to prevent any eavesdropping.

The event management team also required a monitoring system, so they could oversee the different user groups and act or escalate accordingly. This was achieved by installing a digital matrix communications system, interfaced to the radio system that DeltaLive installed.
