Blended Festival

Contracted by Done Events, Delta Sound looked after audio package for new music festival Blended, taking place in DMC Amphitheatre on 1st and 2nd May.

The Blended main PA system comprised of an L`Acoustics system: 24 x K1 (12 per side), plus 3 Kara down per side, 12x K1 Subs (6 per side), 24 x SB28 one center block in a line. 8 pairs of dV-dosc frontfills. Outfills comprising of 10 v-Dosc and 3 dV-dosc downfills per side. The system was powered by mix of LA8 and LA48.

For a few shows here we have used KUDO for side fills, but for Blended we used v-Doscs. The choice was based mainly on availability of the kit. “To be honest, I prefer v-Dosc as a side hang rather than KUDO, I think the 15” drivers in the low marry better” comments Al Woods.

As well as the PA system, Delta Sound supplied the full control package.

Stage monitor consoles (as specified by the artists) were an AVID Profile, DiGiCo SD7 and Yamaha PM5D.

A selection of wireless microphones and IEM systems again specified by the artist were supplied by Delta, Sennheiser – 2050, G3 IEM and 3732HH. For wedges 16x L`Acoustics 115XT, flown side fills 4x Kudo a side, 3x SB218 stacked underneath and dV-Subs for drum fills were used.

FOH equipment consisted of a Midas Pro 9 console, along with DiGiCo SD5 with a Waves server and an Avid Profile again Waves 9 enabled. A Lexicon PCM96 and Avalon 737 supplemented the FOH outboard equipment.

For the first night the Yamaha PM5D was used by each most of the artists onstage and the profile at FOH. Joss Stone used the SD5 at FOH and the SD7 on stage. John Godenzi Joss’s FOH engineer used the Waves Package with a C6 across Joss’s vocal channel.

Xavier Rudd was mixed both FOH and Monitors on the Pro 9 from FOH.

For the second night for Dianna Krall and Elvis Costello the consoles a profile for the SD7 on stage were swapped. And the SD5 was now paired with the Yamaha PM5D.

“It was pretty straight forward, and although there were not a big input count on stage with any of the acts so change overs were very slick and we always had time in hand” Explains Delta`s Al Woods.

“The festival had a varied dynamic from Aloe Blacc and Joss Stone through to Dianna Krall.” Comments Al, “So the system had to be very accurate and flat but still musical.”

Al Woods mixed FOH for Aloe Blacc, Abri and Tim Hassal. “It was a really responsive system, great to mix on.” Says Al. “The whole event was a great change from the norm – nice to see more live music and less PRO Tools.” Closes Al.
