Delta Live at COP26

Conferences, Glasgow, UK

We have been honoured to have spent the last 6 months working on delivering a top secret project up in Glasgow. Some of you might have even seen it on the news in the last few weeks!

With over 120 world leaders, civil society, international organisations, businesses, youth and the world’s media descending on Glasgow, COP26 has been one of the most challenging and engrossing projects Delta Live has ever been involved with.

Here’s a small snapshot of the equipment we delivered to Glasgow:

  • 601 speakers
  • 143 amplifiers
  • 35 mixing desks
  • 109 microphones
  • 40 kilometres of cable

Sustainability was at the core of the COP26 UN Climate Summit, and the event received independent international recognition for its approach to delivering a sustainable event, attaining the ISO20121 certificate.

We contributed to this in our use of L-Acoustics audio equipment, who have led the way since 1984 in innovating efficient and environmentally friendly products, and our use of the rechargeable range of Shure Axient Digital radio microphones, a product which we have invested heavily in to cut our waste of single use batteries. We also facilitated the use of public transport for every Delta Live representative during the build, show, and derig.

As part of our social impact of COP26, we continued our pledge to training the future of our industry by offering to introduce a handful of local Glasgow students to on-site technical work. We have trained students local to our HQ for a number of years, offering tutelage to as many as 8 students per year. We have continually provided training related to everything audio, comms and events in our warehouse, as well as providing opportunity for a range of on-site experience, from large musical shows at Royal Albert Hall and the Roundhouse, to full production events and weddings at Tate Modern and Kew Gardens.

As a result of COP26, we have been able to invest in our transport, and we are delighted that our entire fleet of vehicles is now Euro 6 compliant.

A huge thank you goes out to the nearly 60 sound engineers and members of the Delta Live team that joined us on-site, throughout the build, show and derig. And thank you to Identity, for trusting in us to contribute to one of the most important events of our lifetime.

We are aware more than ever of our impact on the environment, and thanks to COP26 we will continually improve our policies, equipment and carbon footprint united with the world to tackle climate change.
