Prom 27, The Sound of Space: Sci-fi Music

The eight-week summer season of The BBC Proms is a fantastic celebration of music. Designed to include many genres within the classical realm, to invite and excite, The Proms is the biggest celebration of classical music, world-wide. DeltaLive is proud to be the award-winning sound supplier to The BBC Proms.

Today we’re looking at Prom 27, which featured The Sound of Space: Sci-fi Film Music. There is a lot of work that goes into the preparation for each production, aside from the initial set-up of the hall. For each Prom that is amplified the DeltaLive team and sound engineers need to understand the Conductor’s interpretation and desires for each piece of music. Add to that, each of the musicians have their own requirements and importantly, the audience: promenading or seated, want to be immersed by the music.

Walking into the hall the beams from the lights above the stage are pronounced by the haze, creating an airy atmosphere of expectation. An apt ethereal ambience for sci-fi film music to be played in.

Featuring in the line-up were pieces from world renown films including Gravity (composed by Stephen Price), Alien Covenant (composed by Jed Kurzel) and Interstellar (composed by Hans Zimmer). Conductor Robert Ames lead The London Contemporary Orchestra in this Late Night Prom.

Soaring elegantly above the stage, the L-Acoustics line array speakers are almost subtle in their placement, but far from it in their abilities to engage the audience members, immersing them throughout the space in the iconic music. Whether the hall is empty or full, it is filled with the music. No matter where you sit, close your eyes and become immersed in the all-engaging sound.

The energy of the orchestra, vivacity of the conductor, the power of the flown line-array speakers and the technology of L-ISA combine to create an over-awing experience: The Proms.
