Prom 45: Mississippi Goddam: A Homage to Nina Simone
Mississippi Goddam was a homage to Nina Simone. The 45th Prom of the 2019 series paid tribute to the jazz giant and legend. The Metropole Orkest was led by Jules Buckley together with special guest artists, Ledisi and Lisa Fischer.
Singer, pianist, songwriter and arranger, the High Priestess of Soul, Nina Simone’s greatest hits featured in this Prom. Along with a selection of pieces which showcase her fabulous musicality. She was an iconic musician of the 20th century, spanning several genres, with a unique sound, all of her own.
If you weren’t there, this is definitely a Prom you need to listen to. It’ll have you tapping your toes in no time! The selection of pieces takes listeners on a very enjoyable journey of jazz.

With the vocal talents of some amazing singers, making it look so effortless. Hearing the L-ISA system in action and the freedom to wander around the Hall to get various views was a real treat. I particularly enjoyed the rendition of “I’m Feeling Good”. Hearing L-ISA from different locations in the Hall really highlighted how fantastic this technology is. It created a completely immersive listening experience.”
