Dubai Comedy Festival

Events, Dubai

Dubai standup comedy lovers enjoyed a week of laughter with a series of comedy shows across the city. Headlining the festival was newly appointed talk show host Trevor Noah and world renowned actor and comedian Dave Chappelle. Delta Sound played its part in the week-long event, contracted by Dubai based promoter De Boer structures to provide a full audio solution for the huge marquee supplied by the event organizers themselves.

Delta engineers delivered audio packages for the 5 show nights held in the temporary structure next to the ever-popular Skydive drop zone in Dubai Marina. The venue offered air-conditioned indoor seating for up to 15,000 spectators over the duration of the festival.

The main PA was an L-Acoustics system using 8 KARA cabinets each side. Out-fills consisted of 6 KIVA with 2 KILO cabinets. Front-fills were made up of 8 5XTs with 4 SB18s covering the lower audio spectrum. Delays comprised of 16 HK Audio CT108 cabinets ensuring those in the grandstands would not miss a word. Console-wise a Yamaha M7CL was chosen for its size and flexibility. Also controlled from this console was the 8 115FM floor monitors. The System was powered using LA8 and LA24 amplifiers. Sennheiser ew500 G3 systems were used for the artists microphone needs.

A relay system comprising of 16 M-Audio AV40 powered monitors covered the 8 artist and production rooms. Signal for these rooms were wirelessly transmitted using Sennheiser ew300 G3 IEM systems with a 1 watt antenna booster. “We were expecting a few problems with RF coverage but we were pleasantly surprised with the effectiveness of the booster. It resulted in no signal loss or any sort of drop out” says Robert Eatock.

The open air Garden Stage welcomed the guests and serenaded them after the show. This PA also supported the many “street style” performers who entertained the laughter seeking revelers whilst enjoying food and pre-show drinks in the courtyard. Delta installed 4 L-Acoustics ARCS cabinets and 2 dV-SUBs, covering the welcome area as well as 4 towers equipped with Pannasonic B200 speakers, providing a distributed PA system covering every corner of the Food Court adjacent to the Garden Stage.

Pioneer CDJ-2000 Nexus CD players, DJM-900 Nexus and Rane 62 DJ mixers were requested by the performing artists. The garden area and distributed PA were controlled using a Yamaha LS9 mixer and speakers were powered using LA8 and LA48 amplifiers together with 100v transformers for the B200’s.

Delta were working on behalf of De Boer, one of the world’s leading event infrastructure providers.

“The inaugural Dubai Comedy Festival was very well received; we look forward to next years’ line up” closes Rob.
